From Avon and Somerset Police’s Rural Crime Team.

In June, we received a report of badger sett interference in the Chedzoy area of Somerset.

This was investigated by the Rural Crime Team, with help from a local expert, and on Thursday 19 December a man appeared at Taunton Magistrates Court charged with the offence.

He pleaded guilty and was fined £1,400 and ordered to pay costs of £560 and a £85 victim surcharge.

The Rural Crime Team is committed to safeguarding and protecting our local wildlife, and we hope this conviction sends a strong message to anyone who wishes to cause harm to any of our nation’s protected species.

We are grateful to the person who took the time to report this to us and encourage anyone who encounters such criminality to please contact us: https://orlo.uk/hqj9Z
