We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome six incredible new badger rescuers to the team! On 5 April, five passionate individuals from Devon and one from Somerset officially joined our ranks, each bringing their own enthusiasm, compassion, and commitment to protecting one of the UK’s most iconic wild animals.

The day began with a comprehensive theory session. The classroom was buzzing with energy and curiosity as our new recruits absorbed the essentials of what it truly means to be a badger rescuer.

Later, it was time to roll up sleeves and get stuck into the practical side of things. With guidance from some of our most experienced volunteers, the new team members got hands-on with rescue equipment, learning how to assess situations quickly and safely. They practiced techniques using life-sized badger models, simulating real-life rescues and getting a true feel for the challenges they might face in the field.

We’re proud to say that everyone performed exceptionally well! It’s not an easy role—it requires calm under pressure, quick decision-making, and a huge heart—but these new recruits proved they’ve got what it takes.

Thanks to their dedication, our 24/7 helpline team is now even better equipped to respond swiftly to emergency calls across Devon and Somerset. That means shorter response times, more effective interventions, and ultimately, more badgers given a second chance at life.

These folks are true wildlife superheroes. We’re so grateful to have them on board and can’t wait to see the amazing work they’ll do.
